What is Traditional Kalevala Mobilisation Therapy (TKMT)?
TKMT is a gentle, non-invasive Finnish therapy that focuses on mobilising the body’s structures to relieve musculoskeletal issues and promote natural alignment. By using soft, controlled movements, TKMT addresses muscles, connective tissues, circulation, and nerves to restore balance throughout the body, from the feet to the head.
How does TKMT differ from traditional massage?
Unlike regular massage, which often focuses on specific areas of muscle tension, TKMT treats the body as a whole, addressing the root cause of musculoskeletal issues rather than just the symptoms. Traditional deep tissue massages often target surface tension, which can temporarily relieve discomfort, but they may not resolve the underlying issue.
What can I expect during my first TKMT session?
Your session will begin with a brief health questionnaire to give me an overview of your general health and any specific issues or concerns that might affect the treatment. We’ll also discuss any particular areas of tension or discomfort you’d like to focus on.
How long does a typical TKMT session last?
Each TKMT session typically lasts from 1.5 to 2 hours, with some sessions extending up to 2.5 hours based on individual needs.
How often should I have TKMT treatments?
Chronic conditions may require multiple sessions, typically spaced 1-2 weeks apart, depending on your individual needs and response to the initial treatment.
What should I wear for a TKMT session?
For leg treatments, you will be in your underwear, with other areas covered by a towel or light blanket. For back treatments, men need to remove their shirts, and women should unfasten the backs of their bras, keeping the fronts on and covered with a towel. Comfortable, easy-to-remove clothing is recommended. It also helps if you have loose socks available for moments that require sliding legs on the massage table. Wool socks are very good!
What should I do to prepare for a TKMT session?
Drink plenty of water before and after the session to aid recovery. Avoid strenuous activities and the sauna for at least 24 hours post-treatment. Do not cycle to the session to ensure you arrive relaxed.
What does the treatment process involve?
The process begins with signing a patient form and a detailed consultation to discuss your health history and current issues. The treatment starts with you lying down on a massage table, beginning at your feet and progressively moving upwards. For back treatments, you will sit on a stool.
Who developed TKMT?
TKMT was developed and modernised by Olavi Mäkelä, a respected figure in Finnish folk medicine. It is recognised and protected by the Folk Healing Association and is an esteemed part of Finland’s living heritage.
Are there any conditions that make TKMT unsuitable?
Yes, TKMT may not be suitable for individuals with acute bone fractures, recent severe injuries, osteoporosis, tumours, infectious skin conditions, enlarged glands, open wounds, varicose veins, haemophilia, nerve root canal stenosis, severe degenerative changes, carotid artery stenosis, serious heart conditions, pregnancy, postpartum period, and recent surgeries. Always consult your doctor if you are unsure.
What are the benefits of TKMT?
TKMT can alleviate back pain and headaches, restore movement ranges and joint function, relieve nerve impingements, reduce tissue pressure, and improve metabolism. It is particularly beneficial for those who exercise frequently or spend long hours at a computer.
Can TKMT help people who do sports or exercise regularly?
Absolutely! TKMT is particularly beneficial for people who engage in sports or exercise regularly. It helps address muscle tightness, joint restrictions, and overall body imbalances that can occur due to physical activity. By focusing on gentle mobilisation, TKMT improves circulation, releases tension, and enhances joint mobility, all of which are key to faster recovery and preventing injuries.
Can TKMT help with chronic pain or injuries?
Yes, TKMT is particularly effective for those dealing with chronic pain, tension, or movement restrictions. It helps improve mobility, relieve nerve impingements, and restore the body’s natural balance, making it a great option for long-standing musculoskeletal issues.
Do I need to provide anything for treatments that are done at my home?
For the treatment, we will need two (2) stools without backrests or armrests. Ideally, the one on which I will sit should be a bit lower (5-15cm) than the other but same hight will also do.
Please also provide some towels, a pillow, and possibly a light blanket to cover yourself. I will bring the massage table, oils, and any necessary paper for the treatment. If you cannot provide the stools, please inform me in advance so I can bring my travel ones. It also helps if you have some loose socks available for moments that require sliding legs on the massage table.
What is Neural Pathway Massage, and how does it differ from other therapies?
Neural Pathway Massage is a unique Finnish therapy that focuses on the nervous system instead of just muscles. Unlike traditional massages, which relieve muscle tension temporarily, this therapy addresses the communication network of the body, gently stimulating neural pathways to promote overall balance and healing.
How does Neural Pathway Massage feel during the session?
The treatment is extremely gentle and deeply relaxing. Many clients describe it as a calming, meditative experience. You’ll lie fully clothed on a massage table, and the therapist will use light fingertip pressure to stimulate neural pathways. It’s common to feel so relaxed that you may even fall asleep during the session.
Is Neural Pathway Massage Suitable for Everyone?
Neural Pathway Massage is generally suitable for people of all ages and a wide range of health conditions. It is particularly beneficial for those dealing with chronic pain, stress-related issues, hormonal imbalances, or conditions such as migraines or arthritis.
However, there are certain cases where this therapy is not recommended. You should avoid Neural Pathway Massage if:
• You are pregnant and not yet 38 weeks along.
• You’ve had recent surgery, especially within the last two months.
• You’ve received an organ transplant, as the treatment may affect your immune system.
• You have a pacemaker or other implanted medical devices, unless cleared by your doctor.
• You are undergoing cancer treatment, unless approved by your healthcare provider.
If you’re unsure whether Neural Pathway Massage is right for you, I encourage you to consult your doctor or reach out to discuss your specific situation. While this therapy is safe and effective for most people, your well-being is always the top priority. Feel free to contact me directly if you’d like more information or guidance on your suitability for this treatment.
Can this therapy help with emotional stress or mental health issues?
While Neural Pathway Massage is not a substitute for mental health therapy, it can provide significant support. By calming the nervous system, it may help reduce symptoms of anxiety, stress, and tension, promoting an overall sense of relaxation and emotional balance.
How is Neural Pathway Massage tailored to individual needs?
Each session is personalised based on your unique concerns and symptoms. Whether you’re dealing with physical discomfort, stress, or chronic conditions, the therapist will focus on areas that require the most attention, ensuring a customised and effective treatment.
Does this therapy have any side effects?
The therapy is non-invasive and gentle, so side effects are rare. Some clients may experience temporary detox symptoms, like fatigue or mild soreness, as the body adjusts to the treatment. These are typically short-lived and a sign that the therapy is working.
How long is a typical session, and what should I wear?
Each session lasts 90 to 120 minutes to allow for a full-body treatment. You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes like a T-shirt and light trousers or shorts. There’s no need to undress during the session, making it a comfortable and accessible experience.
How soon will I notice results?
Many clients feel a sense of relaxation and lightness after the first session. However, since the nervous system takes time to adjust, more noticeable changes often occur after 3–5 sessions. Regular treatments amplify the effects and support long-term improvements.
Why Are Multiple Sessions Recommended?
The nervous system is a complex and defensive system that doesn’t respond instantly to treatment. Unlike muscles, which can release tension quickly, the nervous system requires time to relax, reset, and function optimally. If your body hasn’t been functioning well for a while, it cannot be fixed with just one or two treatments.
I always recommend committing to at least three treatments to give your nervous system the time it needs to adjust. Most clients know by the third or fourth session whether they are seeing the desired benefits and if this therapy is right for them.
The effectiveness of the treatment builds progressively:
•The first session often serves to introduce your nervous system to the therapy, and it may remain somewhat defensive.
•The second session is about 50% effective as your body begins to adapt.
•By the third session, neural pathways are more open, and the treatment becomes fully effective, delivering noticeable benefits.
This gradual process aligns with the body’s natural cycles of renewal, much like the liver, which regenerates its cells over time to support essential functions like detoxification and energy regulation. Similarly, a series of treatments supports the nervous system as it rebuilds and restores balance.
Regular sessions beyond the initial phase help reinforce these improvements, promoting long-term well-being and keeping your body functioning at its best. With time and consistency, Neural Pathway Massage can bring transformative benefits to your overall health.
Can I combine Neural Pathway Massage with other therapies?
Absolutely! Neural Pathway Massage works wonderfully alongside many other therapies, such as physiotherapy, acupuncture, or regular massage. By focusing on the nervous system—the body’s communication hub—it can amplify the benefits of these treatments, helping to address underlying causes of tension and pain for more comprehensive results.
This therapy is particularly effective when combined with Traditional Kalevala Mobilisation Therapy or my Signature Massage. Together, these two treatments provide a powerful boost to your body, supporting optimal function, reducing discomfort, and promoting long-term balance and well-being. If you’re looking to give your body the ultimate care and ensure it’s performing at its best, this combination is an excellent choice.
What conditions can Neural Pathway Massage help with?
Neural Pathway Massage has been shown to alleviate symptoms associated with a wide range of conditions, including:
• Migraines and chronic headaches
• Back pain and arthritis
• Digestive issues
• Stress and anxiety
• Hormonal imbalances
• Sciatica and other nerve-related conditions
Many clients who have completed a treatment series of five or more sessions report a significant reduction in their reliance on pain medications, with some even able to stop using them entirely. While I cannot guarantee these outcomes or offer specific fixes, this therapy is definitely worth trying if you’re looking to reduce your dependence on medications for pain relief. By addressing the root causes of discomfort, Neural Pathway Massage offers a holistic and supportive approach to improving your quality of life.
What is Raynor Massage?
Raynor Massage is a holistic therapy that combines deep tissue massage, acupressure, and breathwork to release tension throughout the body. It focuses on treating both physical and energetic blockages, helping to relieve chronic pain, stress, and imbalances. This unique approach works on the body as a whole, rather than just isolated areas.
How does Raynor Massage differ from other types of massage?
Unlike traditional massages that may focus on specific areas or muscle groups, Raynor Massage takes a holistic approach, treating the entire body. It integrates elements from different massage styles, such as Shiatsu, Reflexology, and Lomi Lomi, while also addressing energy pathways. The goal is not only to relax muscles but to remove tension from deeper layers and promote overall balance.
Is Raynor Massage suitable for everyone?
Raynor Massage is generally safe for most people, but it may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions, such as recent surgeries, fractures, or severe health issues. Pregnant women should consult their doctor before receiving this treatment. If you have any concerns about your suitability for Raynor Massage, please feel free to reach out, and I can guide you.
What can I expect during a Raynor Massage session?
Your session will begin with a brief consultation to discuss any areas of concern or discomfort. During the treatment, I will work on your body from head to toe, using deep tissue techniques, stretches, and breathwork to release tension. The intensity of the massage can be adjusted according to your comfort level, and I will focus on areas where you may have accumulated tension. Sessions can last 60, 90, or 120 minutes, depending on your preference.
Will Raynor Massage be painful?
Raynor Massage can sometimes cause mild discomfort, especially in areas where tension has built up, but the goal is to release this discomfort, not to cause pain. The intensity is always adjusted to your comfort level, and you are encouraged to communicate with me throughout the session. Many clients feel a deep sense of relief and relaxation as the treatment progresses.
What can I expect after a Raynor Massage session?
After your session, it’s important to stay hydrated and rest, as your body may feel deeply relaxed or even slightly tired. Some clients experience mild soreness or a sense of lightness due to the release of tension. Avoid strenuous activities for 24-48 hours, and listen to your body as it adjusts.
Is Raynor Massage beneficial for athletes or those who do sports?
Absolutely! Raynor Massage is highly beneficial for athletes and anyone who engages in regular physical activity. It not only helps release deep-seated muscle tension but can also include assisted stretching, which is excellent for improving flexibility and recovery. This is particularly helpful for those involved in endurance sports like marathons, as well as high-impact or repetitive-motion activities. Raynor Massage promotes faster recovery, reduces muscle soreness, and helps prevent injuries, making it an ideal treatment for athletes looking to enhance their performance and maintain overall body health.
What should I do to prepare for my Raynor Massage?
There’s no special preparation needed. However, it’s always helpful to come hydrated and wear comfortable clothing. Please remove any jewellery or hair accessories before the session.
Can Raynor Massage help with stress or anxiety?
Yes, Raynor Massage is highly effective for relieving stress and anxiety. The combination of deep tissue work, acupressure, and breathwork helps release physical and emotional tension, promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being. Many clients report feeling lighter, more grounded, and less anxious after a session.
How often should I have Raynor Massage?
The frequency of Raynor Massage depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients benefit from regular monthly sessions to manage chronic tension or stress, while others may only need occasional treatments.
What is a Signature Massage?
My Signature Massage is a completely bespoke treatment that combines elements from Raynor Massage, Traditional Kalevala Mobilisation Therapy (TKMT), and other modalities I’ve studied. Each session is tailored to your individual needs, using a variety of techniques, including deep tissue work, reflexology, and assisted stretching, to release tension and restore balance.
What should I do to prepare for a Signature Massage?
There’s no special preparation required, but for your comfort, remove any jewellery or hair accessories before your session. It’s also helpful to wear comfortable clothing that’s easy to remove and consider having a shower beforehand for a more relaxing experience.
What makes the Signature Massage different?
Unlike standard treatments, the Signature Massage is entirely customised to your needs. It combines the best elements of multiple therapies, such as Raynor and TKMT, and ends with a relaxing head and face massage. It’s a full-body, deeply restorative experience.
Why don’t you offer a 60-minute Signature Massage?
I don’t offer a 60-minute option because I want to take the time to thoroughly address areas of tension and other issues. One hour simply isn’t enough to provide the comprehensive care needed. The Signature Session can last up to 2.5 hours, making it my most complete and in-depth treatment. If you want to remove the most amount of tension and resolve issues in one sitting, rather than over multiple sessions, this is the treatment to book.
What is Finnish Head & Face Massage?
Finnish Head & Face Massage is an incredible way to unwind and de-stress, especially after a long work week. It combines soothing techniques that focus on releasing tension in the head, neck, and face, providing deep relaxation. Paired with calming music, this massage is the perfect way to experience pure relaxation and rejuvenation.
What are the benefits of Finnish Head & Face Massage?
This massage is designed to melt away stress, reduce tension headaches, and improve overall relaxation. It also promotes better sleep and mental clarity, making it the perfect treatment to reset and recharge after a busy week.
Can I gift this treatment to someone?
Absolutely! Finnish Head & Face Massage makes a wonderful gift for anyone in need of relaxation. You can also add it as an enhancement to your own Raynor or TKMT treatment. A modified version of this is included in my Signature Massage sessions for an even more comprehensive experience.
Is this treatment suitable for everyone?
Yes, this gentle, non-invasive massage is suitable for almost anyone. It’s an ideal option for those looking to relax and de-stress, and it’s perfect for anyone who enjoys a calming, rejuvenating experience. If you have any specific concerns, feel free to discuss them with me beforehand.
How should I prepare for my Finnish Head & Face Massage?
No special preparation is needed, but please remove any jewellery and hair accessories before your session. You’re welcome to wear makeup during the treatment, though having less or none can enhance your comfort and provide a more relaxing experience. Let me know if there are any specific areas of tension you’d like to focus on.
Can I have a massage if I’m pregnant?
Yes, pregnant clients are welcome to enjoy Raynor Massage and Nordic Head & Face Massage. However, it’s always best to consult with your doctor regarding your individual situation. Please note that for Traditional Kalevala Mobilisation Therapy (TKMT) and Signature Massage treatments, pregnancy is a contraindication, and we recommend waiting for at least 3 months postpartum before booking a session.
What payment options are available?
You can pay for your treatment via bank transfer, cash, or card—whichever is most convenient for you. If paying by cash, please ensure you have the exact amount, as I do not carry change.
Do you offer treatment series or packages?
Yes! You can purchase multiple treatment packages in advance and save. This is a great option for those looking to receive regular treatments and maintain long-term wellness.
Do you offer gift cards?
Yes, gift cards are available and make a wonderful gift for anyone in need of relaxation or a personalised massage experience. You can choose to purchase a gift card for a set amount or for a specific treatment. To purchase, simply get in touch via email at nordictherapies@gmail.com or send me a message on WhatsApp.
How long will the treatments at my home last? How much time is needed?
In addition to your treatment time, please allow an extra 15 minutes for setting up and packing up the massage table and equipment. If multiple people are being treated on the same day, plan for about 10-15 minutes between each person to reset and prepare for the next treatment. This ensures that each session is fully tailored and that everyone gets the most out of their massage experience.
What is the cancellation policy?
I ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows me to offer the slot to other clients. Failure to provide sufficient notice may result in a cancellation fee.
Can I use the introductory offer more than once?
The introductory offer is available only for new clients and can be used one time per client. It’s a great opportunity to experience your first treatment and see the benefits for yourself at a reduced rate.
What happens during the introductory session?
Your introductory session will start with a short health questionnaire to help me understand your general health and any specific issues that might affect your treatment. We’ll then discuss any areas of concern you’d like to focus on. This initial consultation will take about 10 minutes and is included as part of the overall session time, allowing us to tailor the massage to your needs.
Are your treatments strictly therapeutic?
Yes, all of my treatments are purely therapeutic and holistic. This is not a sexual service or anything of that nature. My focus is on providing professional, healing, and relaxing treatments that promote well-being. Any inappropriate requests will not be tolerated, as my practice is built on respect, care, and professionalism at all times.
I’m a guy and worried I might get aroused during the massage. Is that normal?
Yes, it’s completely normal, and nothing to be concerned about. Sometimes men experience arousal during a therapeutic, non-sexual massage due to the body’s natural response to touch, which activates the parasympathetic nervous system. This can happen regardless of who the therapist is—male or female—and is just a physiological reaction.
Rest assured, you’ll be wearing your underwear throughout the session, and your body will be properly covered with a towel or blanket. As therapists, our focus is on relieving tension and improving your well-being, so there’s absolutely no need to feel embarrassed. It’s not something we are concerned about—we’re just here to help you feel better.
